Breast Size Of Countries

Initial assessment (7 weeks)

Here already seven weeks since my tank is water: it's time to take stock.

Some key dates:
- envy: August 15
- shopping tray: August 27
- impoundment: September 04
- planting: September 22
- first fish: October 09

Developments in 3 files:

23/09/2004: One day after planting

10/10/2004: 2 weeks 1 / 2 after the jungle!

23/10/2004: A week after the first gardening

First and foremost, it is worth noting the importance of to acquire knowledge to engage in the aquarium, meaning the importance of criticality, but also in volume! There are many things, and although not all are necessarily necessary at the outset, a number of bases are essential.
And therein lies the difficulty: if the internet through websites and discussion forums , brought to the beginner aquarist easy access to a huge amount of information, it made even more difficult for him to separate the important from the incidental and trivial or false.
especially as the hobby is far from an exact science: there are many rules of thumb but sometimes not necessarily substantiated beliefs. In addition, a ferry is a subtle balance between several factors, and each tank has its own balance. Hence the impression - true! - Conflicting advice from experts quarrels, truths become errors, etc..
Do not necessarily dismiss it all and try all alone in his corner: the failure is assured. But you have to read very much, take your time, and especially think, understand the reasoning, the mechanisms to take appropriate action. And expect to make mistakes anyway! The most important thing is to learn from its mistakes.

Regarding material, there is also something to lose! For
this initial assessment, I'd be pretty tempted to say that the tank has relatively little importance, provided it is of course correct quality. I enjoyed myself taking a mark, but a good tank would certainly have nude as well. The important criterion is the size, remembering that smaller does not mean easier (especially below 100 liters), although the budget is not the same (one of many equilibria aquarium!;) )
However, we must attach great importance to the filtration (powerful, robust, and large) and lighting (usually undersized). For filtration, it is better to trust the big brands. For lighting, there must be power, but I'm booked on the importance of brands and types of tubes, more marketing than utility. I completed
filter media Rena XP2 filter supplied with the tank and I added a tube to my 54W 2 x 30W ramp. I'll post articles on this subject soon.

Another major topic: water and its chemistry and the nitrogen cycle.
Here no history, you have to lean on and understand! Otherwise, this can lead to disaster, more tempting to do things than doing nothing else.
In particular, we should not focus only on pH but control the GH and KH. And avoid any product!
Similarly, we must attach great importance to the establishment of the nitrogen cycle (and at the peak of nitrite) and water changes. Still
items in store! ;)
For now, my water reacts as expected, according mixture of fact and adding peat .

Well, let's not forget that the goal is to have plants and especially fish! The plants

are very important in most cases.
It seems reasonable to focus on startup species easy, undemanding, and rapid growth. They will overcome the possible shortcomings (light, nutrient substrate, etc.) and compete with algae, almost inevitable departure.
For now, my results are very different, with varying degrees of success. This is often the case: some plants will take pleasure in a bin, others not.
Gardening remains a major area of growth for me! ;) I went back almost to the point of departure on plant growth Following the severe cut (see photo at the beginning of the article).

Finally, fish, these little for which we do all this ...
But we must do for ourselves as well (especially?) And then have fun, otherwise the interest is likely to fall very quickly. The problem is how to have fun in the choice of fish while accepting many constraints: incompatible species or inappropriate in a particular bin size, living in groups or couples, peaceful or territorial demanding maintenance, overcrowding, etc.. We must learn before purchasing.
For now, despite both of my death, I am very happy with my first purchases: Corydoras, Otocinclus , cardinalis and-red nose. I confess that I still work on my patience because I populate a little faster.

At the end, I spent considerable time on this activity in the last three months. The result is not up to my initial expectations in terms of quality. I'm still a little lost, or at least puzzled about what is necessary, incidental or ... But I am very happy with my tray and I still have a lot of envy!
continued ... ;)

What Is The Cost For Mirena

Seconds residents: the cardinal!

Despite the appeal of my first residents ( Otocinclus and Corydoras ) - or rather because of their appeal - like the new fish grew during the week, with the The idea of a bank that would take possession of the tank volume. I nevertheless decided

wait a bit to offer them a new home by themselves. Saturday was therefore devoted to first gardening, cleaning and maintenance .

But Sunday morning, flanked by the two eldest, direction Paris Bercy Village Animalis two subway stations.

I left with a shortlist of choice, fairly conventional way: neon, cardinal or red-nose. The red-nose
offered were not what I was looking for: pm rhodostomus not pm bleheri . I preferred cardinalis ( Paracheirodon axelrodi ) neon ( Paracheirodon innesi ) taste, although they are considered more fragile.

So here I am left with a batch of 10 cardinalis to € 18.40.

Bench cardinalis - Paracheirodon axelrodi ( source)

At home, I place my acclimatization process. When I turn back the light, a piper at the surface remains at 45 degrees. I have little hope at that time. An hour later he was on his back, then sank suddenly. He was able to go cling to the suction filter, This has complicated the recovery.
But nine others seem to have well supported the change and they begin traveling the ferry.

Today Monday, back from work, my biggest told me that one of the cardinal was injured. Indeed, it has a sort of large gash on its side across the width. I'm pretty sure it was not the case yesterday, so it's not a quick dip. Attack another fish? I doubt it, although sometimes Otocinclus feels like racing in one or two. Wound on one of the roots in a sudden movement? One of my roots is quite rough and raw.
Anyway, an hour later, the same end as the first. Two killed in two days! : ((

By learning, we read many stories of massacres, diseases, fatal invasions by algae and whatnot of the same ilk. But when it starts, it is hoped that secretly n 'All these problems will not end ... very common!

I've had algae and these are my first death. This is a blow to morale.

Saturday, October 22 Note: Fortunately, the bad news are arrested there. The eight remaining cardinalis seem fit. Their movements animate the tray beautifully. They even said they wanted new friends! ;)

Evolution of my water (and peat mixture)

As already mentioned in my article on the water chemistry , each species of fish (and plants!) is accustomed to water parameters characteristics of its natural environment. These settings may differ from those of water driving the aquarium.

The easiest way is to choose your fish depending on your tap water. The converse is more complicated: it is working your water to match the needs of fish you prefer.
Some think that all this is unnecessary, and that fish farming supports almost all waters. I do not endorse this approach, although successful cases exist. However, it is clear that some Beginners can do more harm than good by trying to work their water, not well controlled.

I nevertheless chose this path, point me to a container species in South America are accustomed to fresh water and acids, as my tap water (from the Paris basin) is (very) hard, basic: GH = 16 KH = 11 and pH = 8.

The first thing to do is address the hardness.
By mixing my tap water with low mineral water (GH = 2), in a 1/3-2/3 ratio, I divided as provided by almost 3 GH's water tank: GH = 6, with KH = 5 and pH = 7.5.

The KH also fell (divided by 3 to the accuracy of measurement?) In a range where its buffering the pH becomes low enough, I started filtering over peat to reduce pH (filter through peat with a KH of 10 (or more!) is pretty useless).

Indeed, peat has an action on the GH, KH and pH. It releases humic acids which have their own buffering. The pH obtained remains stable even if the KH is low.

why I used peat JBL Tormec (6.80 € in Paris Bercy Animalis ). These are small beads to put in a sock (a pocket of fabric) at the end of the volume of filtration. Nevertheless provide a layer of Perlon above to avoid excessive water color
It is also possible to use the peat (much cheaper) but I have not tried yet.

I only put 1 gram per liter of water real, about 170g (1 / 3 of the 500g box) to avoid too large a variation. I did well!

J: = GH 6, KH = 5, pH = 7.5
J +3: GH = 5, KH = 3, pH = 7 + J
10: GH = 4 = KH 2, pH = 7 -
J 14: GH = 4, KH = 3, pH = 7 - 20
J: = GH 3, KH = 2, pH = 7 -

There is progressive action peat (it should however be renewed after a while, but I have not yet reached that point, I read that some people change after a month or two).

The pH decreased definitely. The latter measure does not seem to indicate still 6.5 but the trend is there (hence the value 7 -).

As expected, GH and KH also fell. A little too much in my opinion, even if the humic acids are supposed to dab. I prefer one or two more points. I will increase the proportion of my tap water in future water changes.

First interview Gardening, cleaning and water change

I realized today my first full interview since the impoundment. It took me the morning for gardening, cleaning, and make a little change of water.

I started by removing 10 liters of water provided for the change of water (keep it carefully though): it is always less for gardening. The

gardening session was mentioned in the previous article "Prime gardening .

I then thoroughly cleaned the tank bottom with my vacuum cleaner to recover the accumulated waste and also those gardening. My first residents did not seem very impressed by the thorough cleaning, gardening or by elsewhere.
In true fairy house, then I polished the inside of my windows with anti algae scraper.

Then I finalized the change of water by introducing 17.5 liters of fresh water (mixed with spring water and tap water) offset the 10 liters withdrawn early, evaporation for several weeks and spotting during Acclimatization example.

Finally, I cleaned my external filter. I have only touched the masses assigned to the mechanical filtration and not those of biological filtration that must keep their bacterial flora. And even for my foam "mechanical" I have cleaned one out of two, using 10 liters of water in the tank recovered from the water change. This preserves the bacteria because chlorine from tap water would have been devastating. I also cleaned the Perlon output filter ensures that the filtration of recent micro-particles.

There are many debates and theories on water changes and cleaning filters. I will see use on that seems better suited to my tank.

Prime gardening

So I attacked the size of plants. My plants have been so far mixed fortunes since planting (see Articles "plantation" ). Some had already need a cup, just 25 days later. The

Bacopa australis had the honor of being the first ... or rather evil! ;)
I started by cutting the longest stems directly into the water, but I was actually too small cuttings. Finally, I removed the plant and I worked on a plastic. By dint of size, I made two small bunches of strands, some being senior rods, other low stem with a few roots, but with much loss.
I had planned to give an aquarium met on the net, but I managed to save him a few strands. And unfortunately, I forgot about it during the cleaning and I found all dry! (It will do better
next time, hoping that it will resume as well as planting.

I then resized the Cabomba caroliniana . This plant grows tall and the bottom stem withers. With my algae problems, they even rotten. So I cut to keep only the healthy part, removed the bottom tray and replanted the stems after removing the lower leaves (otherwise they rot).

After these warm-ups, I started to conquer the jungle what became my Heteranthera zosterifolia . This plant has also grown in height, moults with adventitious roots at all levels. In the end, I kept up very leafy stems, leaving the adventitious roots below, as to the roots. But I removed all the lower, whose initial roots. That worries me a bit to read but I do not see how to do otherwise. The good news is that I could do three bouquets expanded from a single plant.

I finally cut some leaves from my Alternanthera rosaefolia (and adventitious roots), my Sagittaria subulata (which seems to wither away after pushing in fine style - incomprehensible) and transplanted some of my runners Hydrocotyle leucocephala .

After an hour and a half of work, I am quite puzzled with the size, the plants have become smaller and I find myself almost 25 days back, but much less confident then, as many roots have disappeared in this session gardening.
Fortunately, the discovery of many runners in my Echinodorus tenellus and my Lilaeopsis brasiliensis brought me some comfort.

Tamil Actress Biggest Boobs

First

Five weeks after the impoundment and 17 days after planting , the weather became too long, I had fish.

The problem was that I had not seen the peak of nitrite. I could not start testing until just after planting. Either the peak occurred before or has not occurred, or whether it was not long enough and hard to be seen, this latter being the least likely. It may have occurred during the first three weeks, especially as I had brought an activator sold with the tank (Rena Stress Zyme ), but perhaps lacking the pollution to feed the bacteria. Otherwise, it did not happen and it would be imminent.

Weighing the pros and cons, I decided to introduce a handful of fish and get ready to take emergency measures in case of rising nitrites.

I chose to start with the most species involved in the balance of the tank, those who are commonly - and wrongly - cleaners. Wrongly, because they do not really clean and most importantly, they are no substitute for regular maintenance. However, their work is beneficial and therefore make it much to begin earlier, especially if it is attacked algae that threaten my baccalaureate.

In fact, my first choice was to introduce some shrimp Caridina japonica . Unfortunately, during my visit to Aquarium Tropical yesterday morning there were more. So I took the place 4 Otocinclus affinis .

Otocinclus affinis in action! ;) ( source)

For acclimatization, I turned off my lights, put the bag to soak in the tub to balance temperature, then gradually introduced to the aquarium water in the bag to reduce the osmotic shock. After an hour and a half, I finally dropped the fish (but not the water bag!). Another 30 minutes in the dark and finally fiat lux!
But the fish stayed hidden, or fixed (prostrate?). I was a little reserved about the future.

Unfortunately, the afternoon, I decided to visit a fish stock Ivry . Unfortunately because I could not resist the urge to buy 5 corydoras Sterba . They were so cute like that, if malicious, and so cheap! ;)

Trio corydoras Sterba ( source)

I'm back again with my process of acclimatization. But here, big change: after a few moments rather hidden, 5 fish quickly took possession of the ferry, traveling at full speed in all directions.

It changed the family's relationship with the aquarium. My two biggest girls did not left, the third 15 months pointed to the fish, and - ultimate sign - even my wife there is interested!
Nothing that we see around every five to scrutinize and comment on every move of the 9 first residents made me forget the wait and the amount spent.

Especially since they have spoiled the evening: even Otocinclus began moving while corydoras doing the dance in the rejection of the filter. Some crossed the length in an instant. Were they fit or completely stressed? Would they spend the night?
Fortunately, everyone was there this morning and already awake. The Otocinclus and Corydoras even air to play together: it is surprising.

girls have already asked me for other fish. But I decided to make up my weakness by the firm: not for another week at least! And I found the best treatment against nitrite mounted in case.

residents 18 days after planting

On my return after 4 days off (instead of the 6 planned), the pan was in complete disarray: filamentous algae had invaded. I do not know why because I really can not remember this action, but the rejection of the filter was turned down. I think it has favored the runaway growth of algae.
I washed him with my vacuum cleaner , I handed the maximum discharge, and since the state remains stable.
Today, 18 days after planting, plants have continued their respective previously detected at the 10th days.

tray seems increasingly gloomy about the pictures, because plants that have reached the surface. Without flash, the light begins to fail, but the picture is poor.
photos also highlight another lighting problem: the ends are dark. Indeed, my tank is 120 cm long tube with 90 cm. It therefore lacks 15 cm on each side.

All this convinces me to anticipate the purchase of additional lighting to increase the power and also better coverage ends. T8 at 120 cm is too large, and those at 105 cm too rare, I move into a T5 115 cm and 54 W. I then 114W for a real 180 liters, or 1.6-1W liters.

Stock fish in Ivry (94)

It's been a while I wondered about the hobby clubs, scholarships and other events, evidence of the existence of actual communities of hobbyists - as opposed to virtual communities , I know well already.

I took advantage of thirty years of Association amateur aquarist Ivry (AAAI - 40 rue Jean-Jacques Rousseau 94400 Ivry sur Seine), with open doors and stock aquarium, to make me a first impression on any this.

The poster of the thirties of the AAAI

The club is located in the basement of a local municipality of Ivry, while the stock market took place in a room on the ground floor.

The award was small, with just a dozen tanks and half the sellers. In general, there are individuals or members of associations, making farming or less of the reproduction, and on time aquarists wishing to part with some fish. It is also used equipment, plants, roots, etc.. The fish were
classical scalar, Ramirez, corydoras, Ancistrus, bearded, discus, danios, guppies, etc..
Prices are generally very interesting: for example, Corydoras aeneus to 1.50 €, groups of 5 corydoras Sterba to 18.00 €. I actually took a lot of them.
Some even see another advantage to these sales channels: the quality of fish is better than in pet stores and other specialty stores with less fragile fish. However, this depends heavily on sales in my opinion.

I then visited the club. Unfortunately, I did not have much time to discuss and better understand how such a club. So I mainly watched premises. The first room contains
bins presentation and serves as a meeting place. Several tanks larger sizes: ocean, Amazonian species, large cichlids, piranhas, etc.. The second room
dozens of bins in which members can practice maintenance and reproduction of many species.
My impression, perhaps wrong because I have not had time to discuss, is that the number of active members is really quite limited, but they spend much time. For my

First, I do not join a club because I can not get involved enough in this business. But I'll try to get scholarships as possible.

Specialist shop: The Tropical Aquarium (92)

Enticed by a message in a forum talking shrimp Caridina japonica to 1.50 €, I realized this morning in the shop specializes Tropical Aquarium (22 avenue de Verdun 92120 Montrouge).

The Aquarium Shop tropical

struck me as I entered the large surface store, which is unusual for a Paris boutique. It is really nice to walk and stand back. The heart of the store is also the entry: a large room with a huge aquarium behind the bar.

Unfortunately, it was off, perhaps because it was early. A few other tanks were also extinguished. Moreover, the staff was busy at the interview.

I will not judge the ocean because I know nothing, but it seems there's choice, both in fish than crustaceans, anemones, corals, etc..

For water sweet, the choice is correct and the price seemed to me below the standards of Paris, which may remain high nonetheless. As for quality, it is difficult to judge but I have seen nothing shocking.
However, the plants were sad-looking, well that brand Tropica. Perhaps they are there for too long? This

joined the only criticism I will make a whole: the bins are clean and have everything done to correct but not sharp and shining. Satisfactory but not excellent.

I have not paid attention to hardware and other products, or their price.

Finally, I bought 4 Otocinclus affinis to 3.70 € piece. However, there were more Caridina .

Ten days only and that changes already. It is still very nice to see her evolve bin near real time. By comparing the photos, it's even more obvious!

Let a small balance sheet, top to bottom and from left to right:

At bottom left, hiding the rejection of the filter, the Echinodorus bleheri does not seem to have changed much. Maybe she is busy taking root?
his right, the Heteranthera zosterifolia is clearly the yellow jersey! It has almost doubled in size and volume. We will have gardening! The
caroliniana Cabomba grew well. It's an easy plant to propagate by cuttings, which I'm about to do.
Behind and in front of the root, the two Alternanthera reineckii roseafolia seemed to me more discreet, but not sure about the photos: it grows. Especially the one behind. I have the impression that the front has received a little less light, hidden at the top of the root.
Basically right, the gymnocoronis spilanthoides is a real disappointment. While growth is theoretically very fast, it has languished and even seems to die. It might lack of light. Indeed, with the tubes that are only 90 centimeters long, a tray 120, and the root, it seems a little shade. This leads me to strongly advance the purchase of additional lighting. But she will survive until then? However, I do not think this is due to the combined heating or suction filter mask it.

front left, the first leg of Hydrocotyle leucocephala seems to grow slowly. He had every right height so deployed that I planted. He looks very small now.
The Echinodorus tenellus left before the root has changed little. I always wonder if it will take, but by watching closely developments in the pictures, it seems positive. Similarly for Lilaeopsis brasiliensis on the right.
However, no doubt with the Sagittaria subulata center: it has clearly developed. But I took the second leg, already in bad shape for planting and now dead. Star
the first rank, Bacopa australis right under the root blossomed in fine style. The size is near!

I have to leave for a week. I will miss it all!
But on returning, I attack I will buy the first fish. Or ... Surprise! ;)

Cleaning floor vacuums and

Quickly waste accumulates at the bottom of the aquarium. These are mainly organic waste decomposing leaves, leftover food, fish excrement or corpses, etc.. In nature, the waste involved in the food chain and fertilize the soil. In the confined space of the tank, they tend to be in excess recycled naturally. Accumulation will generate toxins that will endanger your aquarium.

action is therefore needed to remove the waste regularly.

First and foremost, you have already tried to limit this pollution, especially taking care not to over feed if food scraps pollute very quickly. It is very common to eat too.

Then we need to encourage the natural elimination of waste, planting properly, and adding appropriate groundfish. These fish will never make it to your place, but they can do their part.

Then, try to absorb the waste by filtration. For this, some advocate the use of the rejection of the filter by placing a rod hole in the bottom of the tank, which will put the waste in suspension and thus ultimately to absorb by the filter. A more natural method is to use the charming corydoras who dig the ground and just stir the waste.

Nevertheless, there is often still waste. Then use a "vacuum".

They all look alike on the principle: it is sucking water and the soil surface with a bell, actually a tube of large diameter, in which the components of soil suction will separate. The heavier (sand and gravel) will fall, the lightest (organic waste) will be really sucked.

However, vacuum cleaners are distinguished by how they draw water:
- traps are simple pipes that will drain the water into another container. But the container is filled quickly and we must also filter the water or replace it. However, it is interesting to clean along with a water change.
- small hand vacuum or use a small pump integrated battery, or look like a air pump, and filter water through a small bag that holds the waste. Simple, they are often limited and not very powerful in terms of water depth.
- other vacuum cleaners can be plugged into the filter of the aquarium. It may not be practical to make the connection every time, nor overly interesting to pollute the filter.
- finally, the last feature of an external pump and filter. They are powerful and their use is unlimited.

is the system I chose buying a Power Gravel Cleaner PGR 1000 Aquarium Systems. It costs between 27 € on the Web and 37 € in Paris pet.

The pump and filter is set on the edge of the tray. One branch decision and shoo! The filter is a simple sock can be cleaned with water. The pump begins easily enough.
So I cleaned my tank who needed following the establishment of the decoration and planting . I removed the bits of plants, a few stray rockwool for planting, small pieces of wood from one of the roots (though the biggest fall) and especially my algae filamentous !

A very good buy for now. But be careful: do not expect to find the effectiveness of a household vacuum cleaner that picks up everything. It is much softer - fortunately for the inhabitants of the tank!
